Werder Bremen 3-2 Borussia Dortmund: Bundesliga’s First Goal (1963)
Borussia Dortmund’s Friedhelm “Timo” Konietzka wrote his name into German football history by scoring the first-ever Bundesliga goal. The forward struck after just 58 seconds in Dortmund’s opening match of the new league era against Werder Bremen. Lothar Emmerich broke down the left and delivered a cross into the penalty area, where Konietzka arrived to fire home the Bundesliga’s first goal. Konietzka later added a second goal in the 90th minute, but it was not enough as Werder Bremen scored three times to claim a 3-2 victory in the Bundesliga’s first-ever round of fixtures.
