Argentina beat France on penalties to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup

Lionel Messi's World Cup dream came true at last, as Argentina edged one of the greatest finals ever, beating France 4-2 on penalties after a 3-3 draw. Goals from Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria saw Argentina lead 2-0 before Kylian Mbappe's late double sent the game to extra time. Messi restored Argentina's lead, but Mbappe converted a second penalty to complete the first World Cup final hat-trick since Geoff Hurst in 1966, sending the match to penalties. Emiliano Martinez saved from Kingsley Coman, Aurelien Tchouameni missed, before Gonzalo Montiel fired home the winner.
