Neymar breaks Pelé’s Brazil goalscoring record in World Cup qualifying
Neymar became Brazil’s all-time leading goalscorer in men’s international football, scoring twice in a 5-1 World Cup qualifying victory over Bolivia. Having started the match level with Pelé on 77 goals, the forward recovered from an early penalty miss to move ahead of the Brazilian legend and make history on his 125th appearance for the Seleção. After the match, Neymar paid tribute to the player whose record he had broken, insisting: “I’m no better than Pelé or any other player for the national team.”
