The Football League resumes after World War I suspension
When football resumed, the league picked up where it had left off, meaning promotions and relegations decided before the suspension finally came into effect. Among those benefiting were Derby County and Preston North End, who made their First Division debuts after securing promotion at the end of the 1914-15 season. Derby began their return with a 1-1 draw against Manchester United, while Preston suffered a 4-0 defeat away to Blackburn Rovers. Tottenham Hotspur experienced the opposite fate, beginning the new season in the Second Division after finishing bottom of the First Division before the war. Spurs responded in style, opening their campaign with a 5-0 victory away at Coventry City.

From spectator to goalscorer: Sarah Crilly’s unbelievable Scotland debut
Sarah Crilly experienced a Scotland debut unlike any other when she went from watching the match in the stands to scoring an international goal. The 20-year-old striker arrived at Scotland’s friendly against Norway as a spectator, but injuries forced manager Anna Signeul to call her from the stands. After coming on in the second half, Crilly scored a late equaliser in a 2-2 draw.
