Leeds Take Narrow Lead in Inter-Cities Fairs Cup Final
Leeds United edged closer to European glory by defeating Ferencváros 1-0 in the first leg of the 1967/68 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup Final at Elland Road. Despite the occasion, a crowd of just over 25,000 watched on, with live television coverage widely blamed for the unusually low attendance. After chances at both ends, Leeds broke the deadlock just before half-time when Peter Lorimer's corner caused chaos in the penalty area. Jack Charlton challenged goalkeeper István Géczi before Mick Jones forced the ball over the line, although the visitors protested for a foul in the build-up.
Ferencváros created several opportunities after the break but were unable to find an equaliser, leaving Leeds with a narrow first-leg advantage.
