Austria and Hungary make international football history in Vienna
Austria defeated Hungary 5-0 in Vienna in the first international football match ever played between two non-British teams. The two sides met at the ground of Wiener Athletiksport Club in what became the first international match ever played between two non-British teams. Although the teams technically represented Vienna and Budapest, both countries regard the fixture as the official debut of their national teams. Austria won 5-0, with Josef Taurer scoring after only five minutes to become the scorer of the first goal in non-British international football. Johann “Jan” Studnicka added a second soon afterwards and later completed a hat-trick, while Gustav Huber also found the net as Austria dominated the contest.
