The first Football League hat-trick: William Tait’s historic treble for Burnley
William Tait made Football League history by scoring the competition’s first-ever hat-trick as Burnley came from 3-0 down to beat Bolton Wanderers 4-3. His achievement was followed by controversy when he was later suspended for celebrating a little too enthusiastically.

The first penalty goal: John Heath makes football history for Wolves
Football history was made when Wolverhampton Wanderers forward John Heath scored the first recorded penalty kick goal. The new penalty rule had only just been introduced following a proposal from the Irish FA, and Heath’s successful spot-kick came in Wolves’ 5-0 victory over Accrington.
