5,000 games of history: Blackburn Rovers reach Football League milestone
Blackburn Rovers celebrated their 5,000th Football League match in September 2023 with a 2-1 victory over Middlesbrough at Ewood Park. The founding member became only the seventh club to reach the landmark, joining Preston North End, Burnley, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Derby County, Bolton Wanderers and West Bromwich Albion in an exclusive group of clubs to achieve the feat. Blackburn’s journey began on 15 September 1888 in the very first season of league football, when they played out a thrilling 5-5 draw with local rivals Accrington.
