Liverpool’s 10-goal League Cup demolition leaves Fulham shell-shocked
Anfield witnessed one of the most extraordinary League Cup scorelines ever seen as Liverpool destroyed Fulham 10-0 in the first leg of their Littlewoods Cup second-round tie. The rout began almost immediately when Ian Rush opened the scoring after just eight minutes. Two minutes later, John Wark doubled the lead on his return from a fractured shin, by the half-hour mark Ronnie Whelan had made it 3-0, and Steve McMahon added a fourth just before the interval. After the break Wark scored again before McMahon completed a remarkable hat-trick with goals in the 66th and 71st minutes. Rush then struck his second of the night, McMahon added a fourth goal, and Steve Nicol completed the scoring to make it 10-0.
